The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) is the lead Government agency that carries out R&D activities in the Malaysian timber and forestry industry.

Timber is graded according to the Malaysian Grading Rules, which was established to ensure timber produced are of good quality.  These rules are recognised by both local Malaysian timber industry players and international players.
