The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) was established in 1974. The purpose of this was to form a strategic alliance and to promote networking among travel agents in order to create exciting opportunities.

Over the years, MATTA has grown from being a travel agents' association to one with over 1850 members comprising all the travel agents and tour operators in the country, with numerous overseas affiliations.
