The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is responsible for maintaining public order, national security, and the sovereignty of Malaysia. The Royal Malaysia Police Volunteer Reserve (SSPDRM) provides Malaysian citizens with the opportunity to serve on a voluntary basis by assisting the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in carrying out duties related to public safety, crime prevention, public order management, and community engagement programmes for the well-being and prosperity of the nation. Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) is the official mobile application introduced by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to enable members of the public to submit information, complaints, and reports quickly and conveniently through multimedia features such as photos, videos, and GPS coordinates. The Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) is a national emergency response and civil protection agency under the Prime Minister's Department. It plays a vital role in assisting communities before, during, and after disasters, emergencies, crises, and rescue operations, in accordance with the Malaysia Civil Defence Force Act 1951 (Act 221). Key Functions of APM Carry out rescue, protection, and humanitarian assistance operations in response to enemy threats, disasters, and emergencies. Provide emergency response and humanitarian aid services throughout Malaysia. Assess and disseminate information, advice, and warnings to the public regarding enemy threats, emergencies, and disasters. APM also operates the Civil Defence Special Force (PASPA), which specialises in: Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) High-risk and hazardous search and rescue operations Scuba diving rescue operations Air, jungle, and water rescue operations APM also conducts various civil defence and safety development programmes for schools, higher education institutions, and the wider community, including: Tunas Pertahanan Awam (TUSPA) – Primary Schools Kadet Sekolah Pertahanan Awam (KASPA) – Secondary Schools Pasukan Institusi Pertahanan Awam (PISPA) – Diploma and Equivalent Programmes Kor Siswa Siswi Pertahanan Awam (Kor SISPA) – Bachelor's Degree and Equivalent Programmes Civil Defence Auxiliary (CDA) – Government, Private Sector, NGOs, and Community Organisations

The Malaysia Volunteer Corps Department (RELA) is a federal government department under the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) that manages a volunteer-based security force. RELA plays an important role in supporting national security, public safety, unity, social harmony, and the well-being of the nation through voluntary participation by the community. Under the Malaysia Volunteer Corps Act 2012 (Act 752), the primary roles of RELA include: Assisting security authorities whenever required. Supporting traffic control and public safety operations. Participating in community service activities. Assisting in the protection of government buildings, statutory bodies, and private property upon request. Individuals who voluntarily join RELA are known as RELA members. Membership : valid for five (5) years from the date of registration and may be renewed, subject to the prescribed requirements. Did You Know? While carrying out official duties, RELA members are recognised as public servants under the Penal Code (Act 574). In addition to its general membership, RELA also extends volunteer opportunities to university students through the RELA Student Brigade (RELASIS), which has been established at selected public universities and higher education institutions across Malaysia. The primary objectives of RELASIS are to: Foster patriotism, discipline, and the spirit of volunteerism among university students. Develop leadership qualities, character, and essential soft skills. Provide exposure to security awareness, disaster management, and community service. RELASIS membership is open to registered students of higher education institutions, subject to the eligibility requirements set by RELA and their respective institutions.

Individuals who wish to join RELA as volunteer members must meet the following eligibility requirements: Be a Malaysian citizen. Be 18 years of age or older. Not be a member of the Malaysian Armed Forces. Not be a member of any other registered volunteer force or volunteer scheme. Applications are subject to the screening and approval process established by the Malaysia Volunteer Corps Department (RELA).
