The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) is the central agency responsible for coordinating disaster management in Malaysia at the federal, state, and district levels.
Key roles of NADMA:
1. Coordination of Large-scale Disaster Management
- Coordinate the response of all relevant agencies, including JKM, APM, PDRM, KKM, RELA, and others during disasters.
- Ensure disaster response operations are carried out efficiently and in an organised manner.
2. Disaster Planning and Policy
- Develop national disaster management policies and action plans.
- Establish guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for disaster management.
- Disaster Preparedness
- Implement the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) programme.
- Conduct disaster training and simulation exercises.
- Enhance the preparedness of communities and government agencies for disasters.
4. Emergency Response
- Activate the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) during Level 3 disasters.
- Coordinate rescue operations and the delivery of immediate assistance.
5. Information and Communication Management
- Disseminate official disaster-related information to the public.
- Provide the latest disaster reports and situation updates.
