What is Agrotourism?
Agrotourism refers to a form of tourism based on the agri-food sector, encompassing activities related to agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and agro-based industries that offer recreational, educational, and interactive experiences for visitors, while also generating economic opportunities and increasing operators’ income.
Examples of agrotourism activities include:
- Farm visits (fruits, vegetable, herb, and livestock farms)
- Fruit and crop picking activities (for example: durian and strawberries)
- Village stay or farm stay experiences
- Demonstrations of modern farming methods and agro technology
- Sales of local agro products (such as honey, coffee, fish crackers, and downstream products)
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security provides an Agrotourism Centre Directory to help the public obtain information on agrotourism locations and services throughout Malaysia.
