Buying and selling vehicles in Malaysia involves compliance with JPJ regulations. Transactions can be done via authorized dealers, individuals, or registered used car companies.
Types of Transactions:
- New vehicles
Bought directly from authorized dealers.
- Used vehicles
Bought from individuals or used car dealers (dealers usually manage the process with a fee).
Process of Used Vehicle Transaction (Individual to Individual):
- Check Vehicle Status
- Have your vehicle inspected at PUSPAKOM or an accredited Motor Vehicle Inspection Service (PPKM) center.
- Compulsory PUSPAKOM/PPKM inspection for ownership transfer
- Compulsory PUSPAKOM/PPKM inspection for ownership transfer
- Payment & Sales Agreement
- Issue payment receipt and IC copies of both parties for safety
- Issue payment receipt and IC copies of both parties for safety
- Ownership Transfer at JPJ
- Both parties must appear for biometric thumbprint verification within 7 days
- Panduan Tukar Hakmilik Secara Sukarela
- Panduan Tukar Hakmilik Selain Sukarela
- Renew Road Tax (if expired)
- Buyer can immediately renew insurance & road tax
Important:
- Must not be blacklisted by JPJ or PDRM
- If original owner is deceased, estate administration process (Amanah Raya, etc.) must be followed
