Malaysia is a parliamentary democracy that practices a constitutional monarchy, where citizens elect their representatives through elections held at regular intervals.
Since gaining independence in 1957, Malaysia has conducted a General Election (GE) whenever the Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives) is dissolved.
Who Is Eligible to Vote?
- Are a Malaysian citizen;
- Are 18 years of age or older; and
- Meet all the requirements to be registered as a voter.
Eligible citizens have the right to vote in elections as provided under Article 119 of the Federal Constitution.
Check Your Voter Registration Status
Eligible Malaysian citizens can check their voter registration status through:
- MySPR Semak Portal
- MySPR Semak mobile application
- Voter Registration Counters at the Election Commission (EC) Headquarters in Putrajaya or the respective State Election Office.
Change Your Voting Address
If you need to change your voting address, follow these steps:
Update your address on your identity card (MyKad) at the nearest National Registration Department (JPN) office.
Once your address has been updated on your MyKad, you may change your voting address through the MySPR Portal or at the Election Commission Headquarters or your respective State Election Office.
