In Malaysia, every citizen is required to register and have an identity card. What is MyKad? MyKad is a smart identity card for Malaysian citizens introduced by the National Registration Department (JPN). It serves as an official identity document for individuals aged 12 and above. Every Malaysian citizen child who reaches the age of 12 is required to register for an identity card. 12-year-old application procedure: The applicant himself/ herself needs to visit any branch of the National Registration Department (JPN) Documents required: Original Birth Certificate Parent/ Guardian's Identity Card Application is free if made within 30 days after 12th birthday A fee of RM10 will be charged after 30 days until the child turns 16. After the age of 16, MyKad application is considered as late registration and will be charged a fine. My child is a Malaysian citizen and was abroad with me before the age of 12 until he/ she turns 16. How do I apply for his/ her identity card? Your child needs to apply for an identity card within 30 days of returning to the country. No fee is charged during this period.
Replacement is required if: MyKad lost or stolen MyKad damaged or unreadable Change of information such as address or religion Charges will be applied based on the reason for replacement

Do I need to change my identity card if I move? Based on Regulation 15, National Registration Regulations 1990, if you change your place of residence where the period of stay is 90 days or more, you need to make a replacement change of address on your identity card.
Every retired police or military member is required to apply for an identity card (retired police/military) within 30 days of ending service. There is no fee for this application.
