Aid After the Death of a Pensioner
A derivative pension (pencen terbitan) is a monthly pension payment provided by the government to eligible dependents of: Pension scheme retirees Public service officers under the pension scheme who pass away while in service Armed forces veterans (ATM) on pension Who is eligible to receive a derivative pension? Legitimate widow/ widower Receives pension for life (subject to certain conditions) Children Biological child Adopted child Illegitimate child Disabled child Eligibility conditions: Must be unmarried Up to 18 years old, or Up to 21 years old (until obtaining a first degree) For life if the child is permanently disabled (OKU) and unable to work (subject to committee approval)
In addition to derivative pensions, several other benefits are provided to eligible dependents if a retiree or public service officer passes away: The following are some of the benefits of issuance: Derivative gratuity Lump sum payment to dependents if a public service officer dies while in service Benefit In Lieu for Unused Leave (GCR) Cash payment for remaining annual leave not utilized due to service needs. Ex-Gratia benefit If a public service officer who is single dies while in service, parents receive Ex-Gratia compensation Ex-Gratia death benefit Compensation based on length of service for officers who die while in service. Dependent’s pension Additional payment on top of the derivative pension for dependents, subject to terms and conditions. Funeral Management Assistance (BMJ) RM3,000 assistance, to be claimed within 12 months after the death of the retiree/ public officer
Death benefits are benefits paid to the dependents of an armed force veteran or ATM member who dies while in service. The following are the death benefits for ATM veterans: If a veteran who is currently receiving a service pension dies, his/ her dependents may be paid: Funeral Management Assistance (BMJ) for pensioned veterans. Derivative pension. Financial assistance to eligible dependents via Yayasan Veteran ATM. Funeral Management Assistance (BMJ) for non-pensioned veterans.
