Official Religion

Article 3 of the Federal Constitution states that “Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation”.
Article 11 on Freedom of Religion states that “Everyone has the right to profess and practice his religion and, subject to Clause (4), to spread his religion”. This means that although Malaysia has declared Islam as the official religion, the people of Malaysia, who are of various races and beliefs, are free to practice their respective beliefs. This freedom forms a strong unity between the races and this has been proven by the peace enjoyed by the people of Malaysia over the years.
