Every Malaysian citizen child who reaches the age of 12 is required to register for an identity card.
12-year-old application procedure:
- The applicant himself/ herself needs to visit any branch of the National Registration Department (JPN)
- Documents required:
- Original Birth Certificate
- Parent/ Guardian's Identity Card
- Application is free if made within 30 days after 12th birthday
A fee of RM10 will be charged after 30 days until the child turns 16.
After the age of 16, MyKad application is considered as late registration and will be charged a fine.

Your child needs to apply for an identity card within 30 days of returning to the country. No fee is charged during this period.
