Getting married involves several important steps and procedures you should know. In general, the marriage procedure for Muslim couples is as follows:
- Pre-marriage course
Mandatory for prospective brides and grooms. Some exemptions apply depending on the couple’s status and the requirements of the respective state Islamic religious departments.
Apply pre-marriage course- Marriage application
Can be made online or at the religious office.
Each state has different procedures and forms according to their requirements.
Marriage permission letter:
- Issued by the religious office once all documents are complete
- Valid for 90 days from the date of issuance
- Solemnisation (Akad Nikah)
Conducted by an authorised marriage registrar based on the marriage permission obtained.
Couples must obtain a marriage certificate from the registrar or religious office after the solemnisation.
