Definition of a Disaster A disaster is an unexpected event that is complex in nature or affects a wide geographical area. It may result in loss of life, property damage, environmental destruction, and disruption to daily activities. During disasters such as floods, landslides, storms, or major fires, the public is advised to remain calm and follow the instructions of the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of themselves and their families. Identify and appoint the head of household representative through the MyIBJKM application. Register as a resident or non-resident disaster victim with the relief centre officers. Apply for the Compassionate Assistance (Bantuan Wang Ihsan) through the MyIBJKM application during registration. Follow all safety instructions. Maintain personal hygiene and health. Use shared facilities responsibly. Ensure the area has been declared safe by the authorities. Avoid touching electrical appliances or wiring. Inspect the structural condition of your home. Ensure your home is free from hazards and venomous animals such as snakes and centipedes. Record any damage for insurance or financial assistance claims if required. Preparing for disasters that do not affect your home (e.g.: drought) Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Avoid going outdoors unless necessary. The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) is the central agency responsible for coordinating disaster management in Malaysia at the federal, state, and district levels. Coordination of Large-scale Disaster Management Coordinate the response of all relevant agencies, including JKM, APM, PDRM, KKM, RELA, and others during disasters. Ensure disaster response operations are carried out efficiently and in an organised manner. 2. Disaster Planning and Policy Develop national disaster management policies and action plans. Establish guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for disaster management. Disaster Preparedness Implement the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) programme. Conduct disaster training and simulation exercises. Enhance the preparedness of communities and government agencies for disasters. 4. Emergency Response Activate the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) during Level 3 disasters. Coordinate rescue operations and the delivery of immediate assistance. 5. Information and Communication Management Disseminate official disaster-related information to the public. Provide the latest disaster reports and situation updates. 6. Post-disaster Recovery Coordinate community recovery efforts. Manage financial assistance and support for disaster victims.

Who are NADMA partners? NADMA Partners is a volunteer and community collaboration initiative introduced by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to strengthen disaster preparedness and disaster management in Malaysia. The initiative brings together non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporate organisations, and academic institutions to support disaster management efforts before, during, and after disasters.

MyIBJKM is the official mobile application developed by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) to enable disaster victims to manage essential processes before, during, and after a disaster. Compassionate Cash Assistance (BWI) is a financial aid programme provided by the Government to individuals affected by disasters, particularly floods and other natural disasters officially declared by the District Disaster Management Committee Chairperson or the relevant authorities. The assistance is coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) in collaboration with state governments, district authorities, and relevant agencies to help ease the financial burden of disaster victims during the recovery process.
