The Malaysian University English Test (MUET) is an English language proficiency test developed by the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM). MUET results are compulsory for entry into Bachelor’s Degree programmes at Public Universities, subject to the requirements set by the Senate of the respective universities. Apart from the Primary and Second Intake, there is also the Alternative Pathway, which is a direct application to the university. This pathway was created to provide more flexible opportunities for students from various academic, socio-economic and special needs backgrounds. Private Higher Education Institutions (IPTS) consist of universities, university colleges, private colleges and branch campuses of foreign universities established in Malaysia with the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Unlike Public Universities (IPTA), the admission process for IPTS does not go through UPUOnline but is managed directly by the respective institutions. You are encouraged to verify that the programme you are applying for has either full accreditation or provisional accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
If you are interested in a career as an Education Service Officer (Teacher), you can apply for the Bachelor of Education (PISMP) in relevant fields under the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE). Introduction to PISMP A 5-year pathway comprising: 1 year (3 semesters) of the Preparatory Programme (PPISMP) 4 years (12 semesters) of the Bachelor of Education (PISMP) Students who pass PPISMP are automatically absorbed into PISMP. Upon graduation, students are appointed as Education Service Officers, grade DG41. General admission requirements Malaysian citizen Not more than 20 years old as of 30 June in the application year SPM with at least 5 credits, including: Bahasa Melayu – grade A Sejarah – pass Relevant subjects for the applied field – excellent Pass the Teacher Candidate Eligibility Test (UKCG) and interview
Besides the Primary Intake (UPUOnline), applicants can apply through the Second Intake for admission into Public Universities (IPTA) in Malaysia. This pathway was created to provide additional opportunities for students who were not successful through UPUOnline (Primary Intake) or who wish to apply directly to specific programmes offered by the universities. Application: Directly to the university Tuition fees: 90% subsidised by the Government Applications can be made through the portals of IPTA offering study programmes during the specified application period.
