Primary School
Primary school in Malaysia is the first level of formal education that is compulsory for all children under the Education Act 1996. Primary education aims to form the foundation of academic, personality and social skills before these children continue their studies to the secondary level. Duration and Structure of Primary Education Primary education in Malaysia lasts for 6 years (Standard 1 to Standard 6) Children start entering Standard 1 at the age of 7 This education is compulsory for all Malaysian citizens
Types of National Schools in Malaysia National schools in Malaysia are managed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE). They are divided into two main categories: National School (SK) Using Malay language as the main medium of instruction Open to all students regardless of race or religion National-Type School (SJK) Divided into two types: National-Type Chinese School (SJKC) – Mandarin language as the medium of instruction National-Type Tamil School (SJKT) – Tamil language as the medium of instruction Open to all students, but the majority are from the Chinese and Indian communities National Curriculum for Primary Education The primary level curriculum uses the Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) which includes: Malay, English, Mathematics, and Science Moral Education/ Islamic Education History (from Standard 4) Technology Design (RBT) Visual Arts and Music Physical Education Reference:
To enter primary schools in Malaysia, parents need to apply for Standard 1 through the MOE system. As parents, you need to ensure that applications are made within the specified period and be prepared with the necessary documents. The application process can be done online through the Ministry of Education Malaysia Integrated Module (MOEIS). Eligibility Conditions Children must be Malaysian citizens Date of Birth: Make sure the child was born in the qualifying year of the school session you wish to register Registration opening and closing dates: take note of the registration opening and closing dates on the MOE portal Supporting Documents Child's birth certificate Parent or guardian's MyKad Proof of residential address such as a recent utility bill Relevant documents such as custody certificate Supporting documents must be uploaded during the online application process. Placement Review and Appeal Placement reviews and change appeals can be made online within the specified period. If you encounter problems or have any further questions, you can contact the nearest District Education Office (PPD) or State Education Department.

School-Based Assessment (PBS) consists of two categories, namely: Academic Classroom Assessment (PBD) An assessment system that is implemented continuously in the classroom to measure student progress and achievement throughout the learning session. Final Academic Session Exam (UASA) Examination to assess students' academic achievement at the end of the school session Non-Academic Physical Activity, Sports and Co-Curricular Assessment (PAJSK) Assessment of student achievement in extracurricular activities with an emphasis on physical development, leadership, and student co-curricular participation. PAJSK components consist of: Co-Curriculum (Sports, Clubs and Uniformed Bodies) Extra Curricula SEGAK (National Physical Fitness Standards) PAJSK contributes to merit scores to specialized schools such as Fully Boarding Schools (SBP) and MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM). Psychometric Assessment Measuring students' natural abilities, thinking skills, problem-solving skills, interests, inclinations, attitudes and personalities.
