Zakat
Zakat assistance is one of the forms of distribution of zakat funds collected from Muslims and channeled to eligible groups in accordance with Islamic law. Zakat management is carried out by the State Islamic Religious Councils (MAIN) through State Zakat Centres, under the jurisdiction of the respective state governments. The recipients of zakat are called asnaf, consisting of 8 categories: Fakir – No income at all or extremely poor Miskin – Has income but insufficient for basic needs Amil – Those appointed to manage zakat collection and distribution Muallaf – New converts to Islam who need support Riqab – Those freeing slaves (rare today; sometimes interpreted as helping free people from debt or oppression) Gharimin – Those in debt for basic needs or public interest Fisabilillah – Activities or struggles in the cause of Allah such as Islamic education, dakwah, etc. Ibnu Sabil – Stranded travelers who need help Reference: MAIWP
