Financial Aid
The Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) is a direct financial aid initiative by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM) for low-income groups. This assistance is part of the Malaysia MADANI agenda to ease the people’s cost of living. Recipient Categories: Households Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia Gross monthly household income RM5,000 and below Married couples or single parents/widows/widowers with children who meet eligibility criteria Elderly Without Spouse Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia 60 years old and above Gross monthly income RM5,000 and below Single, widowed, or widowers without children Single Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia Single, or single parents/widows/widowers without children Aged 21 to 59 years (or 19 years and above for PWDs) Not a full-time IPTA/IPTS student Gross monthly income RM2,500 and below Payment Rates (general): The STR payment rate depends on income and number of children. The following are the general payment rates: Households with no children: RM500 – RM1,000/year Households with 1–5 children: RM750 – RM2,500/year Elderly without spouse: RM600/year Single: RM600/year Payment Methods: Direct bank transfer Cash at Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) counters for recipients without bank accounts Refer to the official STR portal for the latest conditions and rates.
The Rahmah Basic Contribution (SARA) is a government initiative to help the poor and hardcore poor obtain basic necessities. It is an extension of STR and is implemented in collaboration with Yayasan MyKasih using a cashless system via MyKad. Eligible Recipients: Hardcore poor/poor (STR recipients with eKasih records) Non-hardcore poor/poor (STR recipients) Assistance Amount: Depending on the recipient category, up to RM2,100 per year for the extremely poor/poor Reference: SARA Aid Rate Implementation Method: Aid credited to recipients’ MyKad Recipients scan MyKad at participating grocery stores/supermarkets Examples of Basic Goods Covered: Bread, eggs, cooking oil, flour, biscuits, instant noodles, canned food, condiments Personal hygiene products, household cleaning products Medicines School supplies
A federal aid scheme provided by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) to families with eligible children. Rates: Minimum RM200/month per child Maximum RM1,000/month per family RM250 per child (aged 6 and below) RM200 per child (aged 7 to 18) Purpose: To help families/guardians of children who have no guardians so they can continue to live with their families and sustain life without affecting growth and development To assist parents/guardians in caring for children in need and strengthening family institutions, including those under detention/banishment, to provide proper care
Assistance for individuals/families who are underprivileged and in need, to sustain their livelihood and well-being in the community. Rates: Minimum RM150/month to maximum RM500/month per family. Eligibility: Malaysian citizens residing in Federal Territories Household income not exceeding the current Hardcore Poor Household Poverty Line (PGK) average, or Hardcore Poor Per Capita PGK average Those in need and poor families not covered under other JKM monthly assistance schemes Other factors considered, such as applicant’s economic condition, health, and dependents
Foster Child Assistance (BAP) is given to parents/guardians with foster children. To support underprivileged, orphaned, or abandoned children to remain with foster families To ease the burden of foster families willing to care for foster children as their own To encourage society to foster disadvantaged children Rates: RM250/month per child Maximum RM500/month per family fostering 2 or more children Eligibility: Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia Families caring for children under 18 who have no parents, are not adopted, and live with foster families under: JKM Foster Child Program Court Order under the Child Act 2001 Relatives/extended families with legal eligibility Children live with foster families as follows: Children taken from the Foster Child Program operated by JKM; or Children who are cared for under a Court Order for Children (MBKK) in accordance with the Children Act 2001; or Children who are Malaysian citizens and are cared for by heirs or foster families who are related and qualified Children living in Voluntary Welfare Organizations (PSK) which provide services and facilities free of charge are not eligible.
The Elderly Assistance (BWE) is financial aid provided by JKM to senior citizens in need. Eligibility: Malaysian citizens residing in Malaysia 60 years old and above Household income not exceeding the current Hardcore Poor Household Poverty Line (PGK) average, or Hardcore Poor Per Capita PGK average Elderly without children (living alone) may be considered if staying with family/guardian whose income exceeds PGK Not living in JKM-run institutions or daily/residential care centers (receiving government grants/free services) Rate: RM600/month
